Weekend Wrap Up
Another long weekend.
Caroline took off Friday and we saw a double feature of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Milk with friends. We’re a bit obsessive about Academy Award nominees this time each year (I even blogged about the Oscars today at the League of Reluctant Adults). Both were excellent, though the edge goes to Milk. I still think Slumdog Millionaire is going to take the top prize, but opinions are like assholes, just like they say.
I had a great Valentine’s Day dinner/movies/other. We opted out of seeing Friday the 13th (the reviews have been terrible and, well…Michael Bay) and went for some romantic comedy stuff from the video store (as you do when the line of cars to turn into the theater resembles a funeral procession–damn, it was crowded). Of course, being who we are, the romantic comedy turned out to be Kevin Smith’s Zach and Miri Make a Porno! It was filthy and hilarious and Justin Long (the Mac guy) stole his scene and the DVD extras. We nearly peed ourselves thinking about the people who picked up this dirty gem thinking it would be “cute” and tricked by the fact that “Make a Porno” has been stripped from the title and all the marketing. We imagined them cringing with their sweeties, disgusted, passion draining from their Valentine night. Meanwhile, we’re crapping ourselves laughing. Yeah…we totally did it.
I’m definitely going to have to buy this one.
Sunday was supposed to be about work, but once again, no words made it into the manuscript. I think there are times where the relationship has to come first and everything else can wait. That’s what this weekend was about. We even did that thing that puts the fiery fear of God into every husband’s heart.
An activity so torturous and republican, it brings to mind thoughts of rushing onto a sword.
I think you know what I’m talking about.
That’s right.
Antiquing.
And we even had fun. At the expense of other’s once treasured belongings, of course. But fun was indeed had.
Speaking of fun, Christopher Moore (Fool, A Dirty Job) blew into Seattle last night for an event that was hilarious and startlingly dangerous for people in the front row. Let’s just say that even when pissed and cursing, Moore is funny. A true inspiration. Can’t wait to get a chance to sit down and read Fool.
So…that’s it. Wanted to remind everyone that a certain book comes out next week that I’m counting on for some livelihood. And I’ve heard that it’s even shipping from Barnes and Noble already, so if you order Road Trip of the Living Dead today, you could get it early and still be eligible for the Zombie Stimulus Package contest!
Credit cards ready! Go!

Sounds like you had a great weekend! Me not so much, but I’m not going to say why.
Looking forward to a certain book next week. I’ll go and bother the local bookstores about it!
I adored Zach and Miri. Part of it could be because it was set in the area I grew up in, but it actually was a good movie!
Oh yes Zach and Miri is a great funny movie. We actually went to see it in the theater. We went this weekend and caught the new Friday the 13th. I really enjoyed the movie (then again I really like Michael Bay). The movie has all that you are expecting out of a Jason flick. I can at least say it was 100% better than Jason X. Not that it is hard to be better than that sack of crap. We celebrated V Day by going to see My Bloody Valentine.
LOVED Zach and Miri .. actually I LOVE all of Kevin Smith’s movies
One of my recent writing gigs was doing a profile of Seth Rogen, so while I haven’t yet *seen* Zach and Miri, I read a lot about it last week! I’m definitely looking forward to picking it up and having a fun video night at home.
Did you pick up anything fun antiquing?
Qwill – You’re too good to me. You should start whipping me with car antennas.
VA – I did notice they said they were in Pittsburgh and damn if they didn’t make it seem cold as hell.
Michelle – !!! Was My Bloody Valentine not fun?
Ter – Me too, for the most part.
Alana – You have to see it. So funny and no, we didn’t pick up a thing.
